Steve Hendley began his construction and development
career at the age of 15 working for the family business in
Southern California. Working in the field installing
underground utilities, grading industrial and residential
sites, as well as grading and paving streets and parking lots,
gave Steve the hands on knowledge necessary for the development
projects that lay ahead.
At the age of 26, as Vice President of the construction
company, Steve was working on the design and build out of a 50
acre industrial subdivision. The San Marcos Industrial Park was
the first project in San Diego County to utilize material
mining and processing as a means to develop a property for
build-out.
That project provided the platform for a rock and gravel operation and a concrete tilt up building company. Steve became Senior Vice President of Construction for the building company specializing in Design/Build projects throughout San Diego and Southern Riverside counties. He also continued the development at San Marcos Industrial Park. Supervising a design staff of 7 architects/designers, and a field crew of up to 80, Steve was responsible for the planning and processing of all construction plans, site plan approvals, and permitting as well as the budgets for construction. He worked actively with the planning, building and engineering departments of various cities and counties, securing the permits for construction and worked 1 on 1 with clients throughout that process.
In 1989, Steve launched his own company, Spectrum Contracting in Temecula California. Although principally developing their own projects, Spectrum also provided Design Build services to others. The last project completed before moving to Bend was a 100,000 sq. ft. building for Ace Moving and Storage in Mira Mesa, California
Steve moved to Bend in 1992 with his wife of 34 years, Donna, and their two children, now ages 28 and 30. He set out on a new career, owning a small retail business which he operated for 15 years, until January 2008. Steve comes to Compass Commercial offering a Development Services component to the services already provided by Principal Broker Steve Toomey.
