Controller:
Are you a financial leader who thrives on complexity—overseeing multi-entity books across diverse business lines, from brokerage commissions to commercial property management and maintenance to construction accounting? Do you want your work to directly support the growth of one of Oregon’s premier commercial real estate firms—while enjoying life in Bend? If yes, please read on.
About Us:
Compass Commercial is the premier commercial real estate firm east of the Cascades in Oregon, with a growing presence west of the Cascades and in Southern Washington. We deliver value through our Brokerage, Property Management and Maintenance, and Construction Services divisions. We manage approximately 200 commercial properties and oversee significant client trust funds across roughly 125 accounts. Our culture is built on collaboration, integrity, and excellence.
The Role:
As our Controller, you’ll own the full financial picture across our Corporate (financial statements, partnership accounting), Brokerage (commission processing, desk fees), Property Management and Maintenance (full-service property accounting, CAM reconciliations, triple-net lease accounting, tenant ledgers, property budgets, trust account management), and Construction Services (project-level cost tracking) divisions. You’ll work across Yardi and QuickBooks, lead a team processing 1,300+ invoices per month, and serve as a strategic partner to the executive team. Reports to the CFO/President.
Our Ideal Candidate:
You’re detail-oriented and investigative—able to trace a deposit discrepancy back through years of lease history, then step back to advise executives on strategy. You mentor with patience and high standards. You collaborate easily with property managers, brokers, CPAs, and lenders. You’re curious about how technology—including AI tools—can free your team for higher-value work. Above all, you take pride in getting it right across every division and every set of books.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial reporting and maintain accurate records across all divisions.
- Manage brokerage accounting: commission processing, desk fees, and agent transactions.
- Manage full-service property management accounting: lease interpretation, CAM reconciliations, triple-net calculations, tenant ledgers, trust accounts, and property budgets.
- Oversee construction accounting and project-level cost tracking.
- Ensure proper expense classification (repairs vs. capital expenditures) to protect owners and tenants during CAM audits.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure GAAP compliance.
- Collaborate with company and client CPAs on tax reporting and complex accounting matters.
- Deliver property financials that owners, lenders, and CPAs can rely on directly.
- Serve as a hands-on leader and strategic advisor to the executive team.
Qualifications:
Required: BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Prior role as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager. Proven team leadership. Strong GAAP and internal controls knowledge. Experience collaborating with external CPAs. Proficiency with Yardi, MRI, QuickBooks, or similar software; Payroll/HRIS familiarity preferred.
Strongly Preferred: Commercial real estate and construction accounting experience. CPA license. Property management accounting experience (CAM reconciliations, triple-net structures, property budgeting). Yardi or MRI experience.
What We Offer:

- Competitive salary with performance bonus potential
- Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
- 401(k) with company match
- Generous PTO and holiday schedule
- Professional development opportunities and certification support
- Client-focused, supportive, people-first culture grounded in collaboration and integrity
If you’re a detail-oriented leader with an investigative mindset, a passion for commercial real estate, and a track record of delivering financials people can rely on—we’d like to hear from you.
