Sparrow Clubs: Bless A Nest

Compass Commercial Real Estate Services team members have donated Christmas gifts to adopted families in Central Oregon through the Sparrow Clubs for a decade. We started supporting Sparrow Clubs with the Bless A Nest ornament program in 2006. In 2013 we participated in Swinging with the Stars, and then sponsored two children between 2013 and 2015. “It is a pleasure to have our team members support an organization that makes a difference in families facing challenging circumstances,” says Lupita Wesseler, Compass Commercial’s Director of Operations.

This year, Compass Commercial is donating to the family of Lucy O., a young girl in Bend who was born with cystic fibrosis. She spent time in the NICU for the first few months of her life, struggling to gain weight and fighting a serious lung infection.

Now a happy toddler, she is at home, however, she still needs constant care and supervision, sometimes going to Portland for treatments and doctors’ visits. She is feeding tube dependent, requiring her to wear a backpack that works to feed her 18 hours a day, and receives breathing treatments that take up about an hour and a half twice each day. She loves playing outdoors (with many restrictions to keep her healthy), and watching Thomas the Train during her breathing treatments. Her favorite animals are monkeys and owls. She also sings and dances to her favorite music.

The involvement of Compass Commercial partner and broker Peter May, CCIM and his wife Kristi has, in a large part, inspired continued commitment and relationship with Sparrow Clubs. Compass Commercial team members are happy to provide gifts for Lucy and her family this Christmas.

In addition to the gifts, any Sparrow Cash raised for Lucy will help with ongoing medical expenses, travel to Portland, building a Cystic Fibrosis friendly outdoor play area, and everyday living expenses. As part of their model, students at Pacific Crest Middle School will earn Sparrow Cash through completing community services hours sponsored by Tetherow.

Sparrow Clubs matches local children in medical need with kids in schools who adopt that child and voluntarily raise funds for the child and family through acts of community service. Sick kids get help; healthy kids learn important life lessons of compassion, character and conscience.
