Bend’s rental housing shortage is part of a larger real estate and economic cycle and the City of Bend is working hard along with the state to address the growing housing needs of our communities.
According to Compass Commercial’s Pat Kesgard, 5% vacancy is considered a healthy rate for rental housing, but at Bend’s recently reported 1.04% vacancy, there remains a shortage in affordable housing to accommodate retail and service industry workers. The business community and developers are responding to the need, but it doesn’t seem to be fast enough.
