Broker Co-chairs Rotary’s Pints for Polio

Compass Commercial Real Estate Services broker Joel Thomas, CCIM serves as the co-chair of Pints for Polio – A Bend Pub Walk, which is an annual event put on by the Rotary Club of Greater Bend. The event will take place Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 2pm to 6pm. The cost is $25 and includes a commemorative pint glass and a 6 oz. taste of beer at up to 16 different pubs downtown, on Galveston Ave., and in the Box Factory area. Check in starts at the Deschutes Brewery Downtown (1044 NW Bond St., Bend, OR), upstairs. Participants can register in advance at www.pintsforpolio.org.

Joel has been a member of Rotary since 2013 and has been working on the Pints for Polio event since its first year in 2011 – even before he was a member. Last year was his first year co-chairing the event. He became passionate about this event after learning of the lasting impact it can have. “This is truly one of the only diseases where we have the opportunity to wipe it off the face of the earth. Once we eradicate polio, it’s gone, and this debilitating, paralyzing disease will no longer inflict children,” said Joel. “This is our chance to change the world, not just now, but forever.”

Over the last seven years, the Rotary Club of Greater Bend has raised over $60,000 toward the effort and that has been matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, so the total amount of $180,000 has gone toward PolioPlus. 100% of the proceeds for this year’s event will go to eradicate Polio, thanks to community sponsors.
